Inquilab Zindabad Music Review
-Kshiteesh Phansalker
Let the upheaval live forever and beyond…
A mélange of melodious tunes, thought-provoking words, compelling use of instruments, and a noble purpose Inquilab Zindabad will strike a chord, especially with the youth. While the music industry struggles to deal with piracy, Gandhaar has come up with an ingenious approach to popularize his album – he has offered it for free.
Every song in the album Inquilab Zindabad has a profound thought intricately weaved into it. In an age where songs are frivolous, tunes are stolen and lyrics are laughable, comes along a music album that provides a much needed breath of fresh air. So deeply meaningful and chaste are the lyrics written by Rohit Nikam, that the current crop of song writers would be compelled to take a look in the mirror and ask themselves ‘Am I really adding value or am I just making money?’ Inquilab Zindabad means ‘Long Live Revolution!’. It is a call for everyone to wake up from the slumber of ignorance and work towards making a better nation. Aptly released on the eve of our Independence Day, the album gives the listener a generous dose of motivation. The music varies from powerful in Khamoshi Ke Parinde to soulful in the title track to hard-hitting in Zarb to enigmatic in Ships Don’t Sink and finally peaceful in Mohandas & Me. Listening to all the five songs will give you a complete musical experience and inspire you to make a difference - somehow, somewhere, no matter how small.
As I express my humble views in this piece, with Inquilab Zindabad playing in the background for the umpteenth time, I still get the same goose-bumps I got the first time I heard it. This is where composer & singer Gandhaar manages to do what few have managed – touch your senses with the same intensity every time you listen to the same song.
As far as the intent behind making music goes, Gandhaar has set out on his journey in the right direction and will hopefully set an example before other budding musicians to follow suit and give similar lasting messages through their songs that are too priceless to be put a price tag on. And then it’s up to the youth of today to translate the motivation into action and let the upheaval live forever and beyond.
