Music should be free.
I wanted to become a music composer from a very young age. I remember, I was very small, and I used to play the harmonium. People who listened seemed to be overjoyed seeing a kid play an instrument. It was this very reason which gave me an impetus to pursue my dream to become a composer. Sometimes I ask myself, why do I make music? Primarily, I do it because I love to. I love to express myself through music. Secondarily, because I want to touch people through my music. Thirdly, there is nothing else I can do apart from music. It is that immense head rush you get when a musical phrase comes to you, you want to compose music for that. And then if I can let people know what that feeling is, better.
Nothing in this world is original. All is inspired. Here’s the more philosophical side to this argument. Quite naturally, making music costs money. A lot of money. However, as a musician I do professional work to earn my bread n butter. And enough to survive I guess. Then there is music which I make for myself, to get myself heard, to reach out to people. And I think that listeners should be able to listen to my music for free. Without paying a dime. Artists in the west have tried it, and reached out to more people than they ever could. However, most artists sell their album on the ideology of ‘Pay what you want’. I am going ahead, and saying don’t pay. Share it, download it, stream it, upload it, all free.
Now for the logical side. Music business has been looted by piracy. Known fact. I know a handful of people who will genuinely go and buy original music from iTunes, Amazon etc. People don’t like to buy music. It is a horrible thing, but piracy has done that to us, we cannot run away from that. So why should I let someone download my music from some illegal site when he can download a better quality audio for free, legally? Nothing wrong in it I guess. So, here you are. Download my music for free. If you like it, share, spread. Let us put an end to piracy. Start a revolution. Long Live Revolution. Inquilab Zindabad!
So all my music is now available for download! FREE!
Peace!
